Sue Hodge Revives Mimi In a New Show!

Sue Hodge, the actress who played Mimi LaBonq in 'Allo 'Allo, is reprising her role as the waitress/resistance fighter in a new show she has put together with her husband Keith Paddington Richards, called "Mimi And The Boy". Aimed at theater, corporate markets, and after dinner dates, the show opened on 8th and 9th April 2003 at the Bonnington Theatre Arnold, Nottingham. What Is Cafe Rene?

This site is dedicated to the half-hour British situation comedy 'Allo 'Allo, created by the crack comedy team of Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft. The show ran for nine years in the United Kingdom to great success, and has been shown on many Public Television Stations here in the USA.

'Allo 'Allo is the story of a French cafe owner during World War II and his various entanglements with the German officers who are controlling the town, the French resistance which is attempting to smuggle downed British airmen back to England, and the beautiful waitresses who work for him and want him to leave his wife. All of these various themes are woven into a tapestry of plot that extends from episode to episode, making 'Allo 'Allo one of the few examples of a "continuous sitcom" ever produced - each episode follows logically from the last, making it advisable to watch the show in order to enjoy the show to its fullest.

As the storyline weaves from one absurd escape scheme to another, as the characters connive and cavort, and as the war itself progresses, the humor flows from the basic premises in wonderful fashion, resulting in my all-time favorite comedy show.

Story Background:

During the Second World War, the French village of Nouvion is invaded and commandeered by the German army. The invading army installs a commandant for the town, Colonel Von Strohm, and his assistant Captain Geering. But (as many occupying forces were wont to do during the war), the two decide to take this opportunity to line their pockets with as much confiscated booty as possible - and to that end, they begin collecting any valuable works of art they can find in the village so they can hide them and fortuitously "discover" them after the war.

Meanwhile, the German high command has sent a Gestapo officer, Herr Flick, to the town to commandeer the most precious works of art, in order to present them to the Fuhrer in Germany. Unfortunately, one of the known works in question, the famous painting of the "Fallen Madonna" (with the big boobies) has already gone missing, thanks to the efforts of the Colonel and the Captain.

Meanwhile, Rene Artois, the owner of "Cafe Rene", a small cafe in town, is wrestling with his conscience and his pocketbook. He can't deny that the Germans occupying the town have money to spend and goods to barter, and he is happy to take it; but he also dislikes what the war and the Germans have done to his town, so he ends up (reluctantly) cooperating with the French resistance as well. The Resistance want him to stop dealing with the Germans; the Germans want him to stop dealing with the Resistance. A healthy standoff.

As a central and busy location in Nouvion, Cafe Rene naturally becomes a crossroads and junction for the Resistance, who are constantly bringing downed British airmen through to hide them temporarily while an escape plan is brought to fruition. Meanwhile, Rene himself deals with not-unwelcome amorous advances from his beautiful waitresses as well as various ridiculous situations, including attending his own funeral and getting trapped inside a British POW camp. What is a Frenchman to do?
